Volunteer Positions

Kennel Guide: Greet public, directing the public around the shelter, answering visitors questions, assisting the public with animals, socializing the animals and beginning the adoption process.

Adoption Counselor: Using communication skills to match animals with loving people. Assessing an animals needs as well as listening to the needs of the potential adopters.

Animal Caregiver: Direct care of animals; feeding, grooming, spot cleaning cages, socializing the animals and preparing animals for offsite adoptions.

Animal Exerciser: Exercising dogs, socializing cats, basic behavior training.

Office Assistant: Various clerical duties such as data entry, filing, faxing, making copies, making phone calls, assisting visitors, folding and preparing mailings, manage lost and found book and special breed request book.

Offsite Adoption Worker: Transporting animals, set up and/or clean up of adoption site, assisting the public (questions, animals, etc.), giving directions to the shelter, fund raising, caring for the animals (food, water, clean, etc.), interview prospective adopters and counseling them on needs and requirements for adoption.

Education and Outreach: Literature, flyer and advertisement distribution, tabling at community events (conventions, shows, malls, stores, festivals, school events, etc.), giving presentations and leading classes or workshops.

Adoption Program: Pets Are Wonderful! This is program to aggressively promote adoptions and will utilize volunteers in several capacities. This program includes various services such as: offsite adoptions (listed above), web site adoption photographs, picture boards (updating public bulletin boards with adoption photos and info), lost and found services, special breed request book, adoption follow-up (calls, visits, mailings, etc.) and home foster care of animals.

Handy Person: Helping out with odd jobs, loading animals/cages/gear, deliveries, repairs at adoption sites, etc.

Other services a Critter Crew member may want to contribute may be: fund-raising, maintenance of grounds and visitation area, run errands, photography or help with a volunteer newsletter
